Summit Natural Gas of Maine to Waive Late Fees for Federal Workers During Shutdown

January 17, 2019

AUGUSTA, Maine – Summit Natural Gas of Maine, Inc. announced today it plans to waive late fees for customers who are federal workers having trouble timely paying their natural gas bills during the federal government shutdown.

“Right now, there are furloughed federal employees throughout Maine who are struggling to pay their bills and heat their homes through no fault of their own,” said Kurt Adams, Summit Natural Gas of Maine’s President. “The last thing we want them worrying about is losing their natural gas service or incurring additional charges because they can’t pay their bill.”

State regulations already prohibit natural gas and electric companies from disconnecting customers during winter months without approval from the Public Utilities Commission because of nonpayment.

To take advantage of this support, Summit customers who are federal workers impacted by the partial government shutdown and unable to pay their bill must call Summit’s customer service department at 800-909-7642. The company’s customer service representatives stand ready to help.
